Specifications:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz

Storage: SATA III 256GiB SSD
RAM: 2x2GiB DDR2

Graphics: GMAX3100

Age: 18 Years old

OS: WIndows 11 Pro (Bypassed) 64bit

As someone might notice i have just upgraded my compaq with a T9300 CPU, which is much faster than a T5270. However i have been reading for a while about Dual IDA, which should make each core work as if it was in single core, going to 2.7 on dual core.
Though i read that it existed, i found out that i have to disable speedstep and somehow do it from the BIOS. Now, the problem is: How can i do this? Should i flash a custom BIOS with the option i need and where can i find one? Should i install a software? Is there a combination of keys that i need to do?
Please help, i've been trying to do this for weeks

Hi @SonoUnRimasto,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

For the HP Compaq 6720s, the BIOS does not include an option to enable or disable Intel SpeedStep (EIST). The BIOS for this model was designed with a limited set of configurable options, and processor power management is handled automatically by the system firmware.

Since the HP Compaq 6720s is an obsolete product, HP no longer develops BIOS updates or new features for this platform. As a result:

  • There is no HP-supported BIOS update that adds a SpeedStep or Dual IDA setting.
  • HP does not provide or support custom or modified BIOS versions.
  • We also can't recommend or assist with flashing unofficial BIOS firmware, as it can permanently damage the system and is outside HP's supported configuration.

If you've come across guides suggesting that Dual IDA can be enabled by modifying the BIOS, those methods rely on unofficial firmware or third-party tools and aren't validated or supported by HP.

One point to keep in mind is that the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 installed in your notebook is an upgraded processor rather than the original factory configuration. Even though the processor itself may support certain Intel technologies, the notebook's chipset, BIOS, and thermal design ultimately determine which features are available.

Based on the HP Compaq 6720s platform, there isn't an HP-supported method to disable SpeedStep or enable Dual IDA. If the option is not present in the BIOS, it cannot be enabled through an HP utility or a BIOS key combination.

We appreciate the effort you've put into upgrading this notebook, especially considering its age, and it's great to see it's still being put to good use. If you have any other questions about the hardware or supported upgrades for the HP Compaq 6720s, we'll be happy to help.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
