Hi,
Please answer following
1. how to achieve maximum upgrades for components
CPU/ SODIMM considering configuration of model Compaq Presario C797EE mentioned at the end.
2. Why there is BIOS ver F.35 for Presario C700 when the latest offered is bios ver F.34 on HP web. Whats the difference. Where can I find both to download with release notes. Does new BIOS on C797EE model enables support processors like Intel Core 2 Duo X9000 and SODIMM PC6400 for 8GB?
3. There is testimony of successful upgrade here. Only difference is its not Compaq Presario C797EE but C771US and was able to upgrade CPU Core 2 Duo T9300. Is there any way to upgrade C700 series (C797EE) to Intel C2d Extreme X9000 CPU's. If not what is max for the chip-set used in C797EE.
4. TDP are different for Intel T9300 and others by 35W to 44W or any other factors, will they effect the upgrade, if yes then please provide list possible latest compatible CPU's with my current chip-set
Below benchmarking applications are showing different results. Please see Sandra chipset readings compare to CPU-Z results.
I shall be grateful
Thanks.

Hello, Just letting all know that my upgrade worked.
-Processor
Upgraded to intel T9300 as mention. probably could support x9000 but it was much expensive not worth
-Memory:
I was sceptical with going more than 4GB, however, currently its running 6GB (2 X 4 ). Havent foung any errors crashes due to modules. Works perfect.
.After those upgrades i installed small SSD which added for booting which gave more boost to system.
.Replaced DVD-Drive with Caddy thanks to visruth, installed with 1TB
. Battery replaced with 12 cells
Conclusion:
This 8 year unit is demonstrating booting, processing and loading speeds which could be compared to couple of year old machines, 6 Gigs of working space memory which can hold heavy programs witout using pagefile (actually disabled) and about Tera byte storage to store every thing needed made it become mordern general use laptop. Only thing which doesnt cope with it is graphics card. Besides that all is fine, infact it is running more cooler than before.
Thankyou for your advise

There is no BIOS update to enable 8 gigs of RAM. 4 gigs of DDR2-800 is the max and I am pretty sure it will downclock to 667 speed. And you cannot install a Core2 Extreme either. Officially, a T8300 is the max but they are reported work with a T9500 so not surprising that guy got a T9300 to work. I am more skeptical of the 5 gigs of RAM claim. I would rather have 2 x 2 running in dual channel mode by installing two identical chips.
It is essentially the same notebook as an HP dv6500t series...965 chipset.
Here is the Service Manual:

Awesome! Thanks for wonderful advise, In terms of CPU upgrade and BIOS options its pretty clear.
About memory when you say 2x2GB dual channel identical chips were you refereing to 667 MHz or 800 MHz
What would be the reason for downclocking if it does.. can it transfer data on 800 speed?
edit:
I think i just found something...

Can you guys please help me with the specifics?
Product: Pressario C700
Model: C770TU
CPU: T2370
RAM: 1+2Gb DDR2 667
System Board ID: 30D9
BIOS Version: F.35
I tried installing the T8300, the lights came up, but the system failed to POST.
Is there something that needs to be done before I could use the T8300?
Regards,
MFK

For RAM I have been successful using 1 stick of 1gb in the slot closest to the motherboard coupled with a 2gb in the outer slot for a total of 3gb RAM. I recently upgraded the outer 2gb to a 4 gb stick and the laptop now sees 5gb ( I was so excited)! Mixing and matching and changing slots could not yield higher than 5gb though. Using an Elpida 2gb module on the inner with my new Hynix 4gb module on the outer, Windows would start to load, but die about the time you see the windows logo ball with the colors floating around it.
Could you provide us with the brand and model of RAM sticks you mention having successfully used for your 6gb results? Details would be awesome!
Thanks for your work!

I installed the t9500 I spoke of, but I honestly think the stick chip handled better. Makes me think I got a dud or scammed (overseas purchase from ebay). Works decent though. I generally have one user profile logged in, run explorer and chrome at the same time, as well as have multiple adobe .pdf's open and generally a word doc or two. Doesn't give me issues. Web pages are usually a host of youtube how-to ' s and related Web pages. Maybe a total of 20 tabs average between explorer and chrome. Of the 5gb's I stay about 4gb full and my processor often hits max, though it seems to plug along well enough.im not sure if maybe I didn't get the driver right or what. I haven't installed the SSD yet. I used some sw that came with it to prep the system, and then then it started having compatibility issues with ssd sw interface. I have yet to care enough for a work around. Other things have had my attention.
Not sure what processor came stock for you, but if you're willing to step up to the 4gb ram, I imagine some may work and some may not. Not certain of your chances there. Not ready to pull mine and reference the ram part # at the moment, but I remember it was a low density 4gb hynix.
I watched ebay for a while for a matching series 2gb hynix, but ebay was flooded with too many results and when I did find numbers by looking at picks, I forgot to bid (sorry, I'm the guy that bids last minute), and they got away. I'll look more into it I imagine when I swap the hard drive and upgrade to Windows 7-Eleven.

I took the cover off and while the ram is a 4gb hynix, currently housed in the slot closest to the mobo, it is stickered for hynix on the side facing away from me, and the side I can see has a Dell label of "SNPNY687C/4G", so if you find that, it should work...
Ok, I just looked it up on ebay. Hynix matching number is:
"HMP351S6AFR8C" -- avg price on the ones I see: $45-50, with occasional option to make an offer.
Hope that helps!
