1. 5400 RPM WD SATA internal HDD existing- 2.5"
2. For performance upgrade, looking for a solution
3. WD/Samsung/Crucial (not in order) / other SSD , SATA, 2.5"
4. For example, WD Blue 3D NAND, Samsung 870 QVO, Crucial MX500 3D NAND , any other
5. Looking for a higher write and read over time with larger data-set, compatibility with motherboard, CPU etc

Yes you can just replace the mechanical hard drive with about any 2.5 inch wide and 7mm thick SATA SSD. Samsung 860 is a good choice. Just replace the SSD exactly like a hard drive. If you want to clone you will need some external storage or a usb to 2.5 inch adapter.
If Windows 10 is activated on the hard drive it will reactivate on the SSD even if installed as a new clean install. You need no Key Code.
