Hello,
I have an HP ProBook 440 G3 core i5 6200U laptop which has an m.2 slot. I am planning to install a 500 GB SSD in the m.2 slot in addition to my 500GB rotating hard disk in the normal SATA port and then booting from the m.2 slot.
Q.1, Does my laptop support NVMe SSD or will I have to get SATA III SSD? What is The maximum storage size supported? I have heard the NVMe SSD is much faster than SATA in the m.2 slot. Picture of m.2 slot on the motherboard is attached. The SSD I want to install is this:
Lexar® NM610 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD - Lexar
Q.2, After getting the SSD in the m.2 slot, will I be able to boot from the m.2 slot?
M.2 Slot

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
HP ProBook 440 G3 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide
Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.
The M.2 slot supports SATA SSD's only, not NVMe.
The manual does not indicate that dual drive configurations are supported.
You can try using the 2.5" drive for storage, but you would have to remove Windows from it, or the notebook would always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the SSD.
