I wanted to now what is my motherboard's socket and whether i5 processor is compatible with it. If it is, which generations?

The Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B960 processor is a member of the Sandy Bridge processor family.

Chapter 1 has the list of supported Intel Sandy Bridge processors that would work in your PC.

 

Looks like the best processor you can upgrade to would be the Intel® Core™ i7-2620M processor.
