I have HP laptop 15s-fq0008nia and would like to use a docking station that charges, plus allows me to have a monitor and several accessories.  Are there any that will work?  It does have a USB A 3.0 port, as well as several USB C ports.

Hi @Larry500,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

For the HP 15s-fq0008nia laptop, which includes both USB-A 3.0 and USB-C ports, you can use docking stations that support USB-C connectivity for enhanced functionality. Here are some compatible options:

HP USB-C Docking Stations

HP USB-C Dock G5

  • Features:

    • Connects via USB-C, allowing for data transfer and charging.
    • Supports multiple displays via DisplayPort and HDMI ports.
    • Includes additional USB ports for accessories.

  • Power Delivery: Capable of charging your laptop along with connected devices.

HP Thunderbolt Dock G2

  • Features:

    • Offers a range of ports, including USB-C, Thunderbolt, USB-A, DisplayPort, and HDMI.
    • Provides power delivery for charging the laptop.
    • Supports high-resolution displays.

  • Power Delivery: Supports laptop charging via USB-C.

General Recommendations

  • Look for docks that offer power delivery via the USB-C port to ensure your laptop remains charged.

  • Ensure compatibility with DisplayPort or HDMI for connecting monitors.

  • Consider the number of USB ports required for additional accessories.

Setting Up

To set up your docking station:

  1. Connect the docking station to an AC power source using its dedicated power adapter.

  2. Attach the USB-C cable from the docking station to your laptop's USB-C port.

  3. Connect your monitor(s) to the HDMI or DisplayPort outputs on the docking station.

  4. Attach other accessories such as keyboards, mice, or external drives to the additional USB ports on the dock.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Jerry thanks for your reply.  I have already tried the G5 option, the laptop does not recognize the dock, even after multiple updates to drivers for the laptop.  I have also tried an Anker dock, and had all kinds of problems getting the computer to recognize it, plus it would not charge the laptop.  It was connected using the USB C port via Bluetooth connectivity.  It just kept disconnecting.  I even tried the Geek squad at a local Best Buy and they claimed that of the approximately 25-30 docks they carried none would be compatible with my laptop.  Very frustrating.
