Hi and Happy New Year to the HP Community,

I'm trying to establish the correct type of RAM I need to ensure it's compatible. Although my laptop has been identified, I am unable to find a product manual which might provide additional RAM details. The laptop inly has 4GB of RAM but does have two slots. It's ridiculously slow opening we pages and apps so before I try a factory reset to clear all previous windows updates, I thought I would increase the RAM, Firstly, would adding 4 GB into the second slot, giving a total of 8GB work as well as having 8GB in one slot? I do not use the laptop for gaming it's only used for the web and using apps.

Also it currently has 4GB  Speed: 2400 MHz. Does the new RAM whether 4GB or 8GB have to be exactly 2400MHz. Also, does it have to have the same latency? I've no idea what the latency figures are but somebody providing a quote said it was important for compatibility. Using Task Master, it confirms Form Factor SODIMM but noy the voltage which again I was told is also important. Here is the serial number if anyone knows how to find the correct RAM specification. CND7390MJP,

Any advice would be very much appreciated,

Regards, BAZZA-UK

@BAZZA-UK,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

OK, you are not supposed to submit serial numbers. But anyway, your serial number shows that you got an HP Notebook - 15-bs158sa. You can upgrade your RAM up to 2x8GB of DDR4 PC4-19200, 2400 MHz, Non-ECC, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM sticks.

[EDIT:] And for best RAM performance, you should use identical RAM sticks -same brand, model and capacity/latency.

Kind Regards,
