OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 (755F7AV)

Hello,

I would like to use one of the Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB-C) Hub, to connect my laptop to a HDMI monitor, USB devices, TF-cards, and Power Delivery (100W charging) - (all of it via one cable).

~100W power is all i need for standard work - i don't always need 100% performance from 280W original adapter

So I have got "BASEUS 100W PD GaN charger" that works fine for light office work when connected directly to a laptop. I have bought one of the cheap USB-C HUB's that was available on the market. HDMI monitor works fine but there are problems with unexpected lost connection of USB devices, and Power Delivery port does not work via this HUB from some reason.

What is wrong here? Do I need to buy more powerfull USB-C PD adapter (around 130W?) because some of power is consumed by HUB itself? it is just my theroy

Please give me confirmed advice which device listed below would be compatible and what USB-C PD adapter to use?

  • BASEUS Metal Gleam CAHUB-CV0G
  • Baseus StarJoy Series 7-Port HUB Space Grey
  • other?
  • Other HP - made?

"100W power is all i need for standard work - i don't always need 100% performance from 280W original adapter"

Your laptop requires the output of the delivered power adapter. You can't change arbitrarily change the required specification and expect it to work.

" cheap USB-C HUB"  It is probably not powered with an external power adapter and you are using an under powered power adapter with your Omen laptop.

Realistically, you did not purchase an Enterprise level laptop that would have a hub listed as an accessory.

You can try one of the HP  USB-C to multiport hubs that is externally powered, but asking for confirmed advice for an Enterprise setup on a gaming laptop is a bit much.

""BASEUS 100W PD GaN charger" that works fine for light office work when connected directly to a laptop."

You are using an adapter that is not capable of charging the battery at the required wattage.

That does not bode well for the service life of your laptop's battery.

Hi Erica. Unfortunately I am not satisfied with your answer, I think it is off-topic and ignores certain facts resulting from the hardware specification.

I asked about recommending a HUB that will serve as a docking station (power supply/battery backup, additional USB accessories, HDMI monitor)

I am aware that the sample power of the power supply that I gave in the discussion (for example 100W that I am testing) is not sufficient for demanding games and programs, in the case of 100% hardware load. As you know, the RTX4060 graphics card alone can draw about 135W of TGP power.

If we subtract the monitor that is on, we save another power, for the sake of discussion let's assume it will be 50W.

So it is simple math: 280 - (135+50) =95 [W]

Additionally, the processor and other components of the laptop in idle state do not draw the full remaining power, and it depends on the processor clock speed at the moment.

Since I have cited these reasonable arguments, I believe that with such work on this laptop, with the dedicated graphics card turned off ("ECO" mode turned on), you can safely browse the Internet, write emails, or conduct presentations...

So maybe differently: Let's ignore the thesis that it is harmful to the battery (this will be my problem in the future).

Please answer:

Since such a charger connected directly to the laptop via the Thunderbolt 4 connector works and is detected as "connected, charging", There must also be a way to use a specific HUB that will be able to transfer this sufficient current.

That is why I am asking you to present this accessory, which would be helpful for me for light office work.

It may be made by HP, or other brand.

If there is no such accessory known, it would be necessary to test some or create it for community.

Thank you Very much
