15s-du0009TX laptop
Linux

I need to change the Wi-Fi hardware of my 15s-du0009TX laptop. Because for the original Realtek RTL8821CE is no Linux driver available. I think of a standard Intel hardware like Intel Wireless-AC 9462 or Intel Wireless-AC 9260. Are there any compatible issues? I'm asking because some Chinese vendors didn't recommend this Wi-Fi modules for HP laptops.

Best, MarLao

HP used to have a BIOS whitelist that would block use of non-HP specific cards. So many vendors still tell buyers not to try to put their product in HP laptops since they hard to deal with that problem so many times in the day. Now, the problem is your laptop has one wifi antenna. There is only one wifi adapter with one antenna that does 2.4/5ghz:

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

I also doubt there is a Linux driver for this one, however. You want to get a Broadcom or Intel card for seamless Linux compatibility. The whitelist is not a problem now, but many wireless card just will not function right with only a single antenna. Most of the single antenna adapters are Realtek or Ralink, which are not very Linux friendly.

Thanks for the explanation. So there is no easy way out. I gonna buy an external USB Wi-Fi device.
