Common problems for Battery

Hello,

My laptop has recently developed a battery charging issue, and I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.

Initially, I suspected the charger or cable. I measured the adapter output with a multimeter and confirmed that it provides the correct voltage. So the charger itself does not seem to be the problem.

Here is the exact behavior I am observing:

  • When the laptop is completely powered off, it charges normally.
If I let it charge until full while powered off, the orange LED stays solid, indicating continuous charging without interruption then turns into white  means that battery is full.

  • The moment I press the power button to turn the laptop on, the white charging LED blinks briefly for about a second and then turns off, and charging immediately stops.

  • After the system boots, I can clearly see in the operating system that the battery is NOT fully charged.

  • While the laptop is powered on, it behaves as if the battery is already full and refuses to charge.

Additional information:

  • The battery is not at the end of its life. I can still use the laptop for approximately 2.5–3 hours on battery power.

  • This issue started suddenly and was not gradual.

  • Unfortunately, it began about one week after my warranty expired.

At this point, I see two main possibilities:

  1. A hardware-related issue in the battery management system or charging circuitry.

  2. A software or firmware-related issue (BIOS, EC firmware, battery calibration, drivers, or OS-level misreporting) where the system incorrectly believes the battery is fully charged when powered on.

Before taking the laptop to a service center and paying for repairs, I would like to confirm whether this could be caused by a software or firmware issue that I might be able to resolve myself.

I am open to all opinions, experiences, and suggestions.

Thank you in advance.
