I have an HP ENVY x360 convertible (had it since 2020) and it’s dead and won’t charge. I tried a different charger so I know it’s not the charger. Could it be the battery and I just have to replace it?

@daisuk, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Basic Hardware Reset (Hard Reset)

This clears any residual electrical charge that may prevent startup.

Unplug the charger

If removable, disconnect the battery (most ENVY models have internal batteries, so skip this if you can't access it easily)

Hold the power button for 15–30 seconds

Plug the charger back in (without pressing any keys)

Try turning it on

Check Power Light and Charging Indicators

Plug in the AC adapter and look for:

Charging LED near the power port

Keyboard backlight flicker

Any screen flicker or fan noise

If no lights or sounds at all, it may point to:

Faulty charging port

Disconnected internal battery or power connector

Try the BIOS Recovery

If your laptop’s screen stays black, but power may still be reaching the device, try a BIOS recovery.

Plug in the charger

Press and hold Windows key + B, then also hold down the Power button for 2–3 seconds

Release all keys

This may trigger a BIOS recovery screen (listen for beeps or fan spin-up)

Inspect Battery Health (if you can get it to power on)

If it powers on eventually:

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2 at boot)

Or download HP Support Assistant and check battery health under “Battery Check”

Also, i suggest you refer to this guide: HP PCs - Computer does not turn on, start, or boot | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
