Not really sure where to put this, but I'm having some issues with charging with my HP Notebook laptop. This is not the first time this has happened either. Originally about a year ago, my HP computer randomly stopped charging. It would display the blue light indicating that it is indeed plugged in, however it would not actually charge. So, I replaced the AC Adapter and all of the sudden it would charge again. Now, this AC Adapter worked for a while until it had the exact same problem happen to it - Blue light showing plugged in, but not actually charging. Like, when I mouse over the battery it doesn't even say plugged in, not charging. It simply shows nothing and the battery drains down. I was hoping that this would be the last time that this actually happened, but then a couple months ago it happened again. Once more, I replaced the AC Adapter and it would charge. Now, for some reason, it won't charge. I noticed that a couple days ago it wasn't charging right away when I plugged it in and would only charge after I un-plugged and re-plugged it in several times, and now today it simply refuses to charge at all. Any tips for how to fix this? Do I need to get like my 5th AC Adapter Charger in 1 year? *Edit* I just did a HP Battery Check and it say that my battery is fine, and that I need to attach the AC Adapter (even though I already have it plugged in) Is the problem really just that 5 different chargers have all died in the past year? *Edit 2* Also, if I do need to just buy another AC Adapter where would you recommend I get one?

I think I have accurately figured out what is going on. That is a 45w adapter. 19.5 x 2.31 = 45.05w.

That model series also uses a 65w adapter. Yours has an i7 processor and even though it has just the Intel video, it really needs the 65w I suspect..

Specs do say it originally shipped with a 45w adapter so I can't blame anyone but you would be better off with a 65 w and it will not cost much, if any, more.

65-W, for use in HP Notebook PC and HP 250/256 G5 Notebook PC models 710412-001

This is a GENUINE HP adapter for a pretty fair price:

How old is the battery now? Can you post the full HP Support Assistant battery check output so we can see the strength of the cells and how many cycles? Odds are it is not the AC adapter but the battery. If the AC adapter works OK with the battery out of the laptop then you know the adapter is OK. The battery is easily removeable.

I tried taking out the battery whilst the AC Adapter was plugged in, and it instantly turned off. Which, leads me to believe that the battery is probably okay. Maybe the problem is that I've been buying these AC Adapters for like 20-30 Dollars? Perhaps they are cheap quality? The battery isn't that old. It's likely around 1-2 years old. I'm not sure how to post the output, but it says Discharging (52%) Primary Battery: OK The battery is functioning correctly, but the AC Adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attach the AC Adapter. I do indeed have the AC Adapter attached, and I checked to make sure everything was plugged in. I even tried multiple outlets.

Is it a genuine HP adapter or a knock-off compatible adapter? And what are the power specs? Volts amps, etc. If the laptop turns off with the AC adapter plugged in when the battery is removed it is not putting out enough juice. Enough to charge the battery but not run the laptop apparently.

Maybe you are getting underpowered adapters. There are some model series where the top of the line models with a discrete graphics card and an i7 processor should not use an adapter that will work fine for the lower-spec versions from the same model line.

This computer apparently takes in 19.5V and 2.31A. The battery is a knock-off, however it has an outputof 19.5V and 2.31A. My best guess is that it does have the right specs, but because it's a cheap knock-off it probably stopped working within a short amount of time. Perhaps I should attempt to buy directly from HP? Not really sure where to do that though.
