Computer not recognizing new CPU

Hi All,

I have an HP Pavilion Slimline s5704y PC. I recently installed an AMD Phenom II x6 1090 T Processor in it. I am running windows 10 Pro on the computer as well. The computer is running but it doesn't seem to recognize the new processor in the system information (msinfo32). It still shows processor AMD Athlon II 260 Dual Core. I tried to search on the HP site for Bios Flash upgrade, but I had not luck. The bios version is American Megatrends Inc, 6.07 01/18/2011

Can anybody help with how to get this pc to recognize the new AMD Phenom processor? The system specification page show that is supports this processor -

and the pc is currently running since I'm on it submitting this question.

Hi,

Try going to device manager (right-click on start and click on device manager)  and find the CPU under heading processor. Right-click on each processor and uninstall. Now reboot the computer and see if windows recognizes the new processor.

Hello Antydigital,

Let me guide you with this. 

As you had installed another processor the system will need to recognize the processor.

Please remember to disable the secure boot and to enable the legacy boot.  Save the settings and start the system. 

If this does not help, try changing the BIOS to default.

Hi David,

I went into the device manager and uninstalled both AMD II Athlon processors and rebooted the pc. It did not recognize the new processor and the AMD Athlon II 250 Processors showed up again. Thanks for the input though!

Thanks for your response. This computer originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium and I had it upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. The bios doesn't have the Secure Boot option in the screen. I went to the following url for instructions to update the BIOS - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629#AbT0 - but I didn't see the Windows10 option. I went to the Window 7 Option but I didn't see anything regarding the BIOS. I tried installing the AMD Chipset Drivers but it failed to continue to install due to invalid operating system.
