HP 15-p013tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a HP 15-p013tx with 2 slots and an 8gb ram (See bottom of the post for part number/spare number) installed in slot 1.

I have two questions.

1. Maximum RAM upgrade capacity

from the CMD when I enter wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEX on my  , it shows me the capacity as 16gb. I ordered an 8GB from Amazon (timetec) initially but that didn't work as when I turned on the laptop, windows won't boot.

I then went on the kingston website where it showed me the KCP3L16SD8/8 RAM that would work but if you look at the memory bank schema it shows that the max compatible was 12gb. I then searched the internet and also found out the same on another website claiming 12gb as the maximum. Can someone please help me with knowing what is the maximum RAM upgrade I can go with ?

2. Compatible RAM.

This one relates to the first question. Now whatever the maximum turns out to be (12gb or 16gb), do I need to order both from Kingston so that they are compatible or would it be ok to run with the existing RAM that's on the system already ? see images below for the one that is already installed.

Thanks

Hi Irwin,

Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately the support service in Australia wasn't much helpful and suggested me to consult a local technician to see if I can upgrade or not. (SMH).

I am just after information based on past experiences or normal industry standards to ensure I am not buying a $118 RAM which would just go to the bin if it doesn't work.

Thanks
