HSTNN-I11X
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Dear all

Do you knwo if it is possible to connect a 4k and WUXGA Monitor over DVI and DP using the dock: HSTNN-I11X and the HP 8760W?

The old docking station has a shared connection between DP and DVI and can't output on both screens with full resolution the DVI screen is stuck at 1200x800.

Any help would be appreciated!

That is an interesting question. Back in 2012 that was a powerful mobile workstation.

You have made the question difficult by not including the product number of the workstation so we can find the hardware configuration easily.

The link below this line has the generic specifications for the HP Elitebook 8740w mobile workstation.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-elitebook-8760w-mobile-workstation/5071180/document/c0286332...

As you can see, the configuration of the workstation has a wide range of optional components. ONe thing that does not change in the config is the External display capabilities.

External:

  • Up to 32-bit per pixel color depth
  • DisplayPort supports resolutions up to 2560 x 1600, 30-bit color depth at 60 Hz, and full HD (1920 x 1080) monitors, 24-bit color depth at 120 Hz.
  • VGA port supports resolutions up to 2048 x 1536 at 75 Hz, and lower resolutions at up to 100 Hz.
  • DVI-D (single link) video signal available through DVI port in optional HP Docking Station (sold separately) supports resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 at both full and reduced blanking, and 1920 x 1200 at reduced blanking.

The Optional Docking stations that are published as being compatible are the following:

A7E38AA
Product Name

HP 2012 230W Advanced Docking Station

A7E34AA
Product NameHP 2012 230W Docking Station

A7E38UT
Product NameHP 2012 230W Advanced Docking Station

The HSTNN-I11X  docking station is published by an online vendor as being compatible.  Perhaps the old docking station is no longer serviceable.

Hey thanks for the fast reply.
Sorry for not including the info.

it is the version with the quadro 4000m. With the current dock (a7e32aa) 4k 30Hz and 1200x800 60Hz is possible.

If possible 4k and 2560 x 1600 screens would be attached. Running both in 30Hz is ok.

I assume that will be to much for the quadro 4000m?

The current dock that you have connected is not published as being compatible with the workstation.

"I assume that will be to much for the quadro 4000m?"

The link below and quote is  from a review of the Quadro 4000m. It is an old school (2011) MXM graphics module.   providing 4k  display output is not possible with it.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/quadro-4000m.c1428

"The Quadro 4000M was a professional graphics card by NVIDIA, launched in February 2011. Built on the 40 nm process, and based on the GF104 graphics processor, in its N12E-Q3-A1 variant, the card supports DirectX 12.0. The GF104 graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 332 mm² and 1,950 million transistors. It features 336 shading units, 56 texture mapping units and 32 ROPs. NVIDIA has placed 2,048 MB GDDR5 memory on the card, which are connected using a 256-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 475 MHz, memory is running at 625 MHz.
Being a mxm module card, its power draw is rated at 100 W maximum. This device has no display connectivity, as it is not designed to have monitors connected to it."

Hey

Ok the dock is currently working, but I could not find any documentation regarding it.

I will try buying this https://noteboox.de/HP-575324-002-Docking-Station and see what happens.

On the current dock a 4k and 1920 x 1200 monitor can run without any problems. The quadro 4000m is also listed as the output device. So I don't know why it says displays can't be connected.

It also has a iGPU which runs the VGA port on the laptop itself.

Thanks for your help
