If this is a DVD-BR player designed to be used with a TV it is not going to work with your laptop. You need a Blu-Ray SATA drive you can find at Amazon.com. Also you are going to find commercial Blu-Ray movie disks have copy protection that makes it hard to rip them to your hard drive. The USB port on your player is for playing media stored on a USB disk.

No, this won't work, HDMI port on your notebook/laptop is an OUT port and HDMI port on your player is also an OUT port. Connecting two HDMI out ports together you won't go to anywhere.

I tested this one and it is very reliable, it can burn BD's too.

Will this device let me copy blu-ray discs to my hard drive for archivale purposes using DVDFAB software? Thanks for the reply, by the way. The Sony DVD playeralso has a USB and what looks like a RCA jack output that says digital output.
