I have purchased the HP 255 15.6 inch g9 for studies and cannot get the external 2 Dell monitors to work.

Actions I have tried;

  • Current setup for work Probook laptop all works with dell docking station, 2 dell monitors and connect with a c cable all works for probook. This new laptop is not working at all
  • 2 new HDMI cables and a splitter have been added, and still nothing shows.
  • 1 HDMI cable staright into the laptop and monitor also is not working. No 2nd monitor will work.
  • Drivers have been updated and no changes.

The laptop is 5 days old, and HP online support could not advise any further assistance. I need to have the 2 external screens and laptop screen for my studies. Can anyone provide advice to get this working?

Working with 1 screen does not suit my needs. I am not happy with this purchase and have asked for a refund as I feel I have wasted my time and money. HP have been emailed and no response noted yet.

The specs of your machine is

                https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_5845268-5845367-16

It ONLY has 1 hopeless USB 3.2 Gen 1.0 Type-C 5 Gbps signaling rate port (data transfer only; charging or external monitors not supported) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

Other option: using USB-A bub/dock such as   https://support.hp.com/ph-en/product/details/usb-hubs/model/5256507

Thank you for your advice - the HDMI cable for monitor 1 won't even work! I think best to obtain a refund as this is more trouble than what it's worth.

You mean DIRECTLY from machine to monitor, no middle man. In that case please talk with HP or retailer directly.

Correct HDMi from machine direct to monitor does not work. Have 2 other laptops and all work. This new one has nothing. Given that the machine is 6 days in my possession and a new purchase, this is very disappointing. Appreciate your support to try and resolve.

Sorry, I've been using no less than 30 notebooks from HP, Dell, Lenovo and Sony but so far so good, no problem for connecting to external monitor(s) at all with and without docks .
