Notebook 15-af156sa (ENERGY STAR)
Windows 10 Home 64bit
I recently updated this laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 10 64bit (clean install). Now I'm getting constant pauses/freezing/lag with the touchpad pointer and with the pointer when using a USB mouse. I also suffer the same symptoms when typing a long string of the same character. The freezing happens every two seconds and lasts for around a half of a second all of the time the touchpad or mouse pointer is used or if the keyboard is typing a series of characters. This problem was not present when the machine was running Windows 8.
I have un-installed the Synaptics touchpad driver and re-installed but the problem remains. When I try to update the driver it says the best one is already installed.
Device manager does not show any problems or missing drivers.
I have tried to run the Synaptics driver in Win 8 compatibility mode without success. The HP driver download for this machine will not allow me to download drivers for previous Windows versions so I can't install any earlier Synaptics drivers.
The driver in use is v19.2.4.10
The built-in UEFI hardware diagnostic does not show any faults with any hardware. I have also updated the BIOS to the latest version.
Can anyone suggest a remedy for this problem. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that there a lag when you use the mouse or the keyboard.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you download and install the driver from the below link and check if it helps.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp77501-78000/sp77793.exe
If you continue the issue, then I recommend perform a reset on the computer following the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

The solutions offered did not work.
The first one I had already tried (as seen in my original post) it's just the latest Synapitcs trackpad drivers, This was the first thing I tried.
The second one is irrelevant to my problem as this is a fresh, clean install of Windows 10 NOT an overwrite of Windows 8, so a Windows 10 re-set will not work.
As this problem did not occur under Windows 8 I'm assuming this is a conflict between hardware and software.
Others with the same issue of me have suggested a downgrade of the trackpad drivers to an earlier version but HP do not list a lower version driver in the download section for this laptop nor will it let me change the operating system choice, all it will display are drivers for Windows 10, so I'm no further forward.
Also this community support site will not allow me to send a screen capture video of my problem.
FOLLOW UP:
I've just noticed that on start-up the Windows revolving pin wheel is also pausing and stuttering.

That solution did not work. Windows 10 overwrote the Windows 8 drivers and I was back as I was before.
I have discovered that if I remove the Radeon graphics drivers and revert to Windows standard graphics drivers the pointer freezing/pausing is resolved, so does anyone know where I can download Radeon graphics drivers for this machine but for Windows 8 / 8.1
Thanks
