HP Notebook - 15-da2017nx

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade the internal 1TB HDD in my HP Notebook 15-da2017nx (running Windows 11) to an SSD. My laptop currently has a 256GB SSD where I install programs, but it's nearly full. The 1TB HDD is quite slow, and I'd like to replace it with a faster SSD for better performance.

I have a few questions:

  1. Is it possible to replace the existing 1TB HDD with an SSD in this specific laptop model (HP Notebook 15-da2017nx)? I've checked online, but I haven't found definitive confirmation.

  2. What type of SSD is compatible with my laptop?
  3. What is the maximum speed (bandwidth) that my laptop's HDD bay can handle? I want to make sure I buy an SSD that can fully utilize the available bandwidth.
  4. Are there any specific SSD recommendations for my laptop model? I'm looking for a balance of performance, reliability, and price.
  5. Are there any guides or resources you recommend for performing this upgrade?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi:

If your notebook's 256 GB M.2 SSD is nearly full, you may want to consider installing a larger capacity drive such as a 500 GB or 1 TB drive.

I recommend a Crucial P3 NVMe SSD.  This is the 1 TB drive for example:

Amazon.com: Crucial P3 1TB PCIe Gen3 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 3500MB/s - CT1000P3SSD8 : Electroni...

You can replace the 1 TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 1 TB 2.5" SATA SSD.

The SATA port your notebook has is SATA III (6.0 GB/S).  No SATA version was ever developed that is faster than SATA III.

I recommend this model which is reasonably priced yet offers excellent performance:

Amazon.com: Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s,...

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find both the SSD and HDD removal and replacement procedures:
