Hi @Ray470,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're experiencing several issues with your HP Pavilion Power - 15 laptop. These problems could be related to various hardware or software issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to diagnose and potentially fix these problems.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- Make sure that all the hardware components, including RAM and hard drive, are properly seated and connected.
- Test your laptop with an external monitor to see if the black screen issue persists. If it doesn't occur with an external monitor, the problem might be with the laptop's built-in display.
Boot in Safe Mode:
- Try booting your laptop in Safe Mode (usually done by pressing F8 or Shift+F8 during startup). If it boots successfully in Safe Mode, it could indicate a software or driver issue.
Check for Overheating:
- Overheating can lead to shutdowns. Ensure that the laptop's cooling system is functioning properly.
- Monitor the temperature using software like HWMonitor to see if it's overheating.
Memory Test:
- Use Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check for RAM issues. Type "Windows Memory Diagnostic" in the Windows search bar and follow the on-screen instructions.
Check for Disk Errors:
- Run a disk check for errors. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command: sfc /scannow. This will scan and attempt to repair system file issues.
Update Drivers and Windows:
- Make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially graphics and chipset drivers.
- Check for Windows updates and install any pending updates.
BIOS Update:
- Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date. Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve hardware compatibility issues.
Reinstall Windows from a Bootable USB:
- Create a bootable Windows USB drive and try to reinstall Windows from scratch. Make sure to back up your data before doing this.
Hardware Diagnostics:
- Many laptops come with built-in hardware diagnostics tools (usually accessible by pressing a specific key during boot, such as F2 or F12). Use these tools to check for hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
