Hi @stinkypot,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the cooling fan on your HP Victus laptop isn’t working, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.
Check for Obstructions: Ensure that the vents and fan openings are not blocked by dust, debris, or any objects. Use a can of compressed air to clean out any dust that might be obstructing the fan.
Update Drivers and BIOS: Sometimes, outdated drivers or BIOS can cause hardware issues. Visit HP’s support site and make sure you have the latest drivers and BIOS updates for your laptop.
Run HP Diagnostics: Use HP’s built-in diagnostics tool to check the fan's functionality:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F2 to select HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Choose the Component Test and then Fan.
Check Power Settings: Ensure that your power settings are not set to a mode that might disable the fan. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options, and make sure the settings are not configured to reduce fan usage.
Thermal Management Settings: Some HP laptops have thermal management settings that can control fan speeds. Check if your laptop’s settings or any HP utility software has options for adjusting fan behavior.
BIOS Settings: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during startup). Check if there are any fan control settings that might need adjustment.
Reapply Thermal Paste: If you’re comfortable with opening your laptop, you can check if the thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink needs to be reapplied. This can sometimes help with cooling issues.
Check for Software Conflicts: Ensure that there are no software conflicts or background processes that might be affecting the fan’s operation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
