My laptop says the system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly and continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behaviour that can result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. I aleardy opened the computer and cleaned the dust but still not working and looks like the connection to the motherboard is OK. the whole BIOS thing - I can't understand it from other explenations I saw here.
Why it's not possible to have HP support number in Israel or online chat??

@Shaharcohen, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're on the right track already by cleaning the dust and checking the connection. Given your HP Notebook - 15-ay001nj is still showing the fan error despite that, here’s a focused, step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve it:
Understanding the Error
The BIOS message you're seeing is:
“The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly…”
This usually means the fan is:
- Not spinning at all, or
- Not reporting RPM to the motherboard, which can happen even if it’s connected physically.
Next Steps to Fix It
Step 1: Confirm if the Fan Spins
- Power on the laptop and listen closely near the fan vent.
- If the fan doesn’t spin at all, it’s either:
- Dead
- Not getting power
- Faulty RPM sensor
If the fan does spin briefly during power-on and then stops, the BIOS might still report an error if the RPM isn’t detected correctly.
Step 2: Try a BIOS Reset (No advanced knowledge needed)
This is safe and often resolves hardware detection bugs.
- Turn off the laptop completely.
- Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15–30 seconds (this discharges residual power).
- Plug in the charger without the battery and turn it on.
- If the error still appears, try a BIOS reset from the BIOS menu:
- Turn the laptop on and immediately press F10 repeatedly until BIOS loads.
- In BIOS, press F9 to load defaults, then F10 to save and exit.
Step 3: Inspect the Fan Again
You’ve already cleaned it and checked the connection, but check again for:
- Loose wire or partially connected fan cable.
- Wiggle the fan gently to make sure the blades are not physically stuck.
BIOS Update
If the fan works but the error still shows, the BIOS might be misreporting it.
You can update your BIOS from Windows without diving into complicated menus.
If these steps doesn't help, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
