I'm having trouble with the whole process of installing a M.2 SSD and cloning my faulty hard drive over to the new SSD. I'm not sure if I should put in the SSD first then install a cloning program or download it first before installing the SSD into the laptop. Also I'm not sure if I HAVE to remove the battery while opening up my laptop to put in the SSD (I know that I have to disconnect it and power it off completely before doing anything), if not do I just wait 5 minutes before starting to pry open the laptop? Btw the SSD I got was the Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA M.2 Type 2280SS Internal SSD - CT1000MX500SSD4. If anyone could give me a detailed step by step process to this it would be much appreciated.

Typically to clone the drive you will need to have both drives connected at the same time. This is most easily accomplished by having a usb to M.2 adapter cable. Is you current drive bootable or has it completely failed? Yes you should remove the battery to prevent unplanned powerup while working on the laptop.
