Hello I bought this laptop from costco because I spilled a drink on my main laptop and it is toast. I was actually planning on returning this because I thought it might be too weak for what I want to do but I thought maybe I could just upgrade so I have a couple questions.
1. Does this device support m.2 ssd If so how many can I put inside of it.
2. Does it have two ram slots and and what is maximum memory that is supported
3. I want to run some virtual machines in the system info Hyper V is not enable in firmware I know I will need to upgrade to windows pro to do this but will that automatically update my firmware.
4. Ubuntu states minimum processor requirements are 2ghz however this model has a i5-8250 which operates at 1.6 ghz with max of 3.4 ghz If i upgrade to windows 10 pro, upgrade to 1tb ssd and 32gb of ram would this be sufficient to run Virtual machines?
Thank You

@Blegit
Referring to HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
1. This laptop has one m.2 slot supporting either m.2 SATA3 or m.2 NVMe 2280 SSD. If laptop already comes with m.2 drive, then 2.5" SSD drive can be installed. May need additional SATA cable and bracket (page 23,24)
2. Two SODIMM memory slots supporting upto 16GB (2x8G) DDR4-2400
3. Can you not enable Hyper V support in BIOS? Latest BIOS version should be F.07A https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-cs0000-laptop-pc/20284004/model/2183... You can use HP Support Assistant to update BIOS.
4. Max RAM is 16GB only. Ubuntu min requirement 2GHz is for dual core but you have 4 cores 8 threads with turbo 3.4GHz, it should be no problem to run virtual machine on Win10/64

Thank that helps, I was able to enable Hyper v in bios. All the forums I read on say you must be running windows pro in order to manage virutal machines with hyper v but I will give it a try now that I have enabled it in the bios. Thanks

Welcome to the HP Support Community @blegit
1. Your laptop support one M.2 slot.
We recommend if it did not come with the M.2 SSD installed at purchase then open the laptop to make sure the slot is there!!!!!
2. Two RAM slots 32GB max memory.
3. Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) allows one hardware platform to function as multiple “virtual” platforms. It offers improved manageability by limiting downtime and maintaining productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions.
VT-x can be ENABLED in the BIOS.

I was able to make the change and install a virtual machine thank you. What is the difference between windows home and windows pro numerous places on internet say hyper v is not available on windows pro is there an additional feature that gets enabled that’s not present on home ?

I think pro has more networking feature for using in a corporate network. Not sure if it has anything to do with virtual machine.
Anyway I ran my virtual machines in Linux as host using mainly kvm.
Edit: Not sure where RE051ST got that 32GB. But for Apple, people had installed more memory than what was recommended.
And in earlier versions of Windows 10 Pro have Windows Media Center bundled.

Most of the Experts on the forum know if you have an 8th GEN CPU and DDR4/DDR4L memory, you can use the maximum memory that the CPU is capably of.
i5-8250U:
https://ark.intel.com/products/124967/Intel-Core-i5-8250U-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3-40-GHz-
So that would mean that 16GB is incorrect.!!!

Well, like Apple, HP is trying to obsolete non-expert's laptop faster and upsell to a newer or more expensive models, with lower recommended maximum memory..
Edit: Crucial.com (often quoted by experts) also stated Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory maximum of 16GB. Has anyone actually succeeded with 32GB memory upgrade on this laptop?

So I decided to take the costco version back and ordered an ugraded version from hp, it hasnt got here yet but I plan to upgrade the hardrrive to 1tb ssd and 32gb of memory. I assume that the upgradeablity is the same as the costco version it appears I can install a 2.5 ssd as well as a m.2 ssd just wondering if this is basically the same computer as the costco version just with more upgrades? See specs below. Thanks!
