Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r1000 (8Z7S6AV)

I bought this laptop 6 months ago. The temperature values during normal usage were GPU 50-55°C and CPU 60-65°C, but now the GPU stays between 50-55°C, and the CPU ranges from 68-76°C. While playing games, the temperature reaches up to 95°C. Even when I use the fans at maximum speed, the temperature is still much higher than normal. When I change the fan setting from maximum to normal, the fans stop for 8 seconds, and the CPU temperature increases to the point where it is no longer visible in the Omen Gaming Hub. The automatic fan setting does not adjust the fan speed according to the temperature.

Hi @a12dcy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Victus 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop is experiencing higher-than-normal CPU temperatures, especially when playing games. Here are some steps to address this issue.

Check for Dust and Obstructions

  • Cooling fans and vents: Over time, dust can accumulate in the cooling system, causing airflow obstruction and higher temperatures. Carefully clean the fans and vents using compressed air to remove any dust buildup.

Ensure the Laptop is on a Hard, Flat Surface

  • Laptops can overheat when placed on soft surfaces (like a bed or couch), as it restricts airflow. Always use the laptop on a flat, hard surface to allow proper ventilation.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • BIOS update: Make sure your BIOS is up to date. An outdated BIOS can affect the fan behavior and temperature management.
  • GPU and CPU drivers: Check for updates to your GPU (NVIDIA/AMD) and CPU drivers to ensure they are working optimally.

Adjust Power Settings

  • Go to Windows Power Options and choose a balanced or power-saving plan to prevent the CPU from running at full capacity when not necessary.
  • In the Omen Gaming Hub, try adjusting the fan curve manually. If it's set to automatic, it might not be responding to the temperature changes appropriately.

Thermal Paste Check

  • Reapply thermal paste: If the laptop is about 6 months old, the thermal paste between the CPU and heat sink could be degrading, leading to higher temperatures. Reapplying thermal paste might help improve thermal conductivity.

Consider External Cooling Solutions

  • Cooling pad: If internal cooling doesn't seem enough, using an external laptop cooling pad can help lower temperatures.

Monitor Fan Behavior

  • Since you're experiencing an issue where the fans stop for 8 seconds when switching from maximum to normal, this could indicate a software glitch or an issue with fan control. If adjusting settings in the Omen Hub doesn't help, consider reinstalling the Omen Gaming Hub or updating it to the latest version.

Thermal Management in BIOS/UEFI

  • Check your laptop’s BIOS or UEFI settings for any thermal management options. Some systems allow you to set fan curves or adjust cooling modes directly from the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
