Ive read several post about a design flaw with laptop cases. I also have a cracked case in the upper left corner of my 17-by0061st making it almost impossible to plug in the charger. Looking for assistance as I’m retired and do not use it on a daily or even weekly basis.
Thanks in advance.

Hi@RickS5,
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Apologies for all the inconvenience
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. This sounds like hardware related issue with the hinge assembly and in order to fix this issue, your computer needs to be serviced. As we have limited support boundaries in the support community as of now.
I would request you to reach out to our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to check the available service options in order to diagnose the computer physically. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Please feel free to contact us here anytime you need any further assistance. Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution

So Ive spent 3 days sending the same pictures on HPs facebook messenger page and here on the community and all I get is the Covid runaround. I retired from Lockheed Martin where we exclusively used HP laptops. Thats why I bought this one. The crack in my keyboard trim piece of the case is an obvious design flaw with the hinge and looking on the web its no secret to HP.
So my questions is, can I buy the keyboard trim piece with instructions? Or is there any class action case involving these issues ? Not trying to be difficult, but it would be nice if customer support did some kind of customer support besides sending texts or typing responses to pass you off to the next auto/canned response.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem on my 17-byxxx HP laptop. Now it's cracked on the right side as well. I read your thread but don't see a solution. I'm willing to by an after market solution if there is one. I've been looking at many sources such as Maxcases and others but have found nothing. Any help or guidance you can provide is appreciated!

For both of you, the service manual is here- 17-by0061st Service Manual They have the HP part number listed in whichever color your laptop is. Also step by step instructions on how to replace any part. You can search resellers online to see what the cost is. I get a lot of parts from eBay myself.
These forums are mostly volunteers helping end users. If you want to change the keyboard/top case yourself, we can help. If you do want to fix it yourself, please order a inexpensive cell phone tool kit to help separate the cases.
