I've read about cracked cases here.  My case cracked on the bottom left and caused a separation between the screen and the case on the bottom left corner where the monitor/screen attaches to the main keyboard.  I am traveling and need to be able to close and transport it until I can gMy question is, will I be able to close my laptop, without compromising the internal parts of the computer or destroying the actual screen/monitor.

Hi @James_1900

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

If your laptop's case has cracked and caused a separation at the bottom left corner, it's important to proceed carefully to avoid further damage. Here are some considerations:

1. Check the Severity of the Crack

  • Inspect the crack to see if it's affecting any internal components or the screen connection. If the separation is minor and not affecting the hinges or internal parts, you may be able to close it.

2. Support the Laptop

  • When closing the laptop, try to support the cracked area with your hand to prevent additional stress. This can help keep the laptop aligned as you close it.

3. Use a Temporary Fix

  • Consider using a piece of tape or a rubber band to hold the cracked area in place temporarily. This can provide some stability while you travel.

4. Transport Carefully

  • If you must transport it, ensure the laptop is in a protective case or padded bag to minimize movement and impact. Avoid putting pressure on the cracked area.

5. Avoid Excessive Pressure

  • Be cautious when closing the laptop. If it feels like it won’t close easily, don’t force it. Forcing it could cause further damage.

6. Plan for Repair

  • Once you’re settled, consider getting the laptop repaired.
