Hi.

Few months ago I started to have problems with my GPU. In random moment I have "blue screen of death" (Stop code: VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR)  and then my notebook reboot and dont see my main GPU, only integrated. When I reboot it again by long pushing power button I see another BIOS error "CMOS Reset (502)". Sometimes my GPU wake up after that and I can use it, but last time my notebook often start to work like there is no GPU. When I tried to resolve it, my Windows crashed with only one option - use flash drive with new Windows. After I downloaded new Windows problem is still here.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. What is the exact notebook model and GPU (brand and model)?
  2. Have you noticed whether the BSOD (VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR) happens with specific applications, games, or at random?
  3. Do you see the GPU missing in Device Manager only after a crash, or sometimes immediately after boot?
  4. Have you checked temperatures for your GPU and CPU, and do you notice any unusual fan behavior?
  5. Are you running the latest BIOS and GPU drivers, including both integrated and dedicated GPU drivers?

 

Troubleshooting steps to try

  1. Check GPU drivers
    • Install the latest official drivers from the GPU manufacturer and HP support page
  2. BIOS Update and Settings
    • Make sure the notebook is on the latest BIOS version
    • Enter BIOS and check for settings like Hybrid/Discrete GPU mode, PCIe configuration, or Reset BIOS to default
    • Clear CMOS if possible, then reconfigure necessary settings
  3. Run Hardware Diagnostics
    • Use HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2 at boot)
    • Run GPU, memory, and system tests to see if the hardware is failing
  4. Check for overheating or power issues
     
  5. Windows Event Logs
    • Look at Event Viewer under System and Application logs around the time of the crash
    • This may give more insight into whether it’s a driver, hardware, or BIOS issue
