Common problems for Battery

Hello, I'm experiencing a very frustrating issue. Whenever my Radeon 780M is under full load, such as when playing certain demanding games, it consistently crashes after about 5 to 10 minutes. The game always displays the same error message telling me to update to the latest graphics driver.

However, I've already tried many different driver versions, including the latest releases and several stable versions recommended by the community. I also tested allocating both 4 GB and 8 GB of VRAM to the iGPU, but the problem persists.

Is there any way to permanently fix this issue?

Hi @NGUYENBROTHERS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your PC is crashing when the GPU is under full load.

Kindly focus on driver updates, reducing peak power demand, closing background apps, and adjusting gaming performance settings when you see crashes or stuttering under heavy GPU load.

What HP recommends trying:

  • Update all drivers through Windows Update and make sure related HP gaming software is current where applicable. HP specifically recommends updated drivers and updated OMEN Gaming Hub for best gaming performance and stability. OMEN Gaming Hub - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store.

  • Close unnecessary background apps so the game does not compete for CPU/GPU resources.

  • Lower peak power settings if supported on your HP gaming system, since HP notes that reducing peak power can help prevent instability during heavy workloads.

  • Use maximum cooling/fan settings where available to help avoid thermal throttling or protection behavior.

  • Check battery/AC power conditions on supported gaming notebooks, because power behavior can affect performance under load.

  • In Windows 11, you can also set the game to use High Performance graphics settings:

    1. Go to Settings > Gaming > Game Mode > Graphics

    2. Find your game

    3. Select Options

    4. Choose High Performance

Additional HP-related driver guidance

If you are troubleshooting graphics driver issues on an HP PC:

  • Check your current driver version in Device Manager.

  • Use the HP Software & Driver Downloads page for your product if available. Official HP® Support.

  • HP also notes that some driver updates can come through Windows Update.
