Dear all,
I can't seem to find any well-documented reviews/tests of the HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 (120W, with audio module) connected to a MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Two related threads can be found in these forums: this thread mentions it should not be compatible, while the op of another thread mentions that 'everything is working' except that – for him – two displays can only be used in mirroring mode, while his colleague has no trouble using two separate screens. The datasheet only mentions that
- the power button and WOL only work with HP hardware (I could live with that), and
- HP does not provide macOS drivers for Ethernet and audio.
Could someone please clarify, which features of the G2 dock with audio are supported with a MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2016 (two Thunderbolt 3 ports) running macOS 10.14.2, especially whether Ethernet, audio output and the integrated microphone work? The dock seems very promising and I am tempted to buy it if those features are supported.
Kind regards,
Felix

I managed to acquire one of these things in an abandoned desk at the office so I figured I'd see what's up... I connected it to my 2017 13" with touchbar and here is where I am at right now:
- TB3 connection is solid at 40GB/s
- USB connections work at advertised speeds, I have a 3.1 gen 2 10GB/s SSD that is connected at the appropraite speed and several peripherals connected at 5GB/s as they should be
- Display Port works via the DP connector or the TB connector. The ability to detect two monitors both connected to DP appears to not be supported unless one is done via DP and the other via the TB3 connection... I haven't fully tested all scenarios though because I run my monitors through an eGPU and have everything else connected to the G2 Dock.
- I haven't tested ethernet, but given that sound is working fine and both sound and ethernet show up in system profiler it looks kosher...
All I did was plug it in and connect this thing... everything worked instantly with no effort on my part. System profiler showed everything instantly and I haven't had any issues at all. If you have any more questions let me know...
