Compaq Presario CQ56-210EE

Hello,

I want to upgrade the RAM on my Compaq Presario CQ56-210EE. The existing is RAM is Hynix 2GB RAM DDR2 800MHz. I want to ask if the laptop has a bios whitelist on the RAM?

So, can I upgrade the RAM from Hynix 2GB RAM DDR2 800MHz to 2× Samsung 4GB RAM DDR2 800MHz (or 2×2GB RAM)? Or I have to install the same RAM (Hynix)?

And which is the best? Hynix or Samsung?

Hi, Ramy:

Do you know what chipset your notebook has?

If it has an Intel processor, the specs indicate that it has the GL40 chipset, and according to Intel, that chipset only supports 2 x 2 GB of memory.

Intel 82GL40 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub Product Specifications

The service manual indicates that your notebook can support 2 x 4 GB of DDR2-6400 memory.

There is no whitelist for the memory, and it appears from the link to the Samsung DDR2-800 memory you posted, that should work fine.

Be careful though...the picture shows a 4 GB DDR2 memory chip, but the description is for 2 GB memory chips.

4 GB DDR2 memory chips are usually pretty expensive.

Looks like when you click on the 2 x 4 GB option, the cost is 62.77 Euros.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks Dear Paul for your reply and your time.

Yes my Notebook has an Intel Pentium T4500 Dual Core 2.3GHz.

And according to my research I can install up to 8GB RAM 800MHz (2×4G RAM). Yes?

But the 4GB RAM DDR2 800MHz is too expensive, So I think I can buy for this old laptop 2×2GB RAM which is cheap, or maximum 1×2GB RAM + 1×4GB RAM (Total of  6GB RAM).

So in case of 2GB with 4GB the dual channel will work on 2GB RAM by 2GB RAM yes?

And another question please: I installed the windows 10 pro 64 bit on this laptop (SSD upgraded), but the laptop still a bit slow, so if I will upgrade from 2GB RAM to 2×2GB RAM it will be good and faster?

Thanks very much

You're very welcome.

I would go with 2 x 2 GB of memory because the notebook will run better in dual channel mode with matching capacities of memory

W10 should run a little better with 4GB of memory.

Okay dear Paul thank you,

I have an issue on with the laptop starting or maybe sometimes this issue appears suddenly. The problem is in the link below.

I reinstalled the windows 10 pro 64 bit, and the problem still appears. Do you think this problem because of the 2GB 800MHz RAM stick that installed on the laptop?

Because when I dissassembled the laptop I removed the RAM and reinstalled. So when I turned the laptop on after I assembled the laptop, the screen was black. So after the research I found that I need to clean the RAM using eraser. I cleaned up the RAM stick using eraser, so the screen was turned up on after the cleanup but when the laptop start sometimes thiss issue appears.

So I want to ask if this issue is because the RAM (Hardware issue) or because of the big Windows 10 Pro 64 bit on 2GB RAM  800MHz only (Software issue).

Can you help me in this issue?

Thank you very very muchhh

You're very welcome, Ray.

Run the Windows memory diagnostic program and see it finds any problems with the memory.

If the memory is defective, it will let you know in less than 15 seconds after beginning the memory test.

Ohh thanks dear,.

I ran the test the result was no issues.

Any other help for this issue?

Thank very much

You're very welcome.

If the memory passed the tests, unfortunately, I wouldn't know what other things could be causing that issue.

Okay thanks dear Paul for everything.

Sincerely yours,
