Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought my laptop 4 months back and is still in warranty. I just wanted to upgrade the RAM but I am bit confused here.

The specification says that DDR4-2666 bridge to DDR4-2400 dual channel support.

It seems that I have DDR4-2666 RAM by default of 4 GB, but next, I am not sure if I need to buy DDR4 RAM of 2666 MHZ or 2400 MHZ. Please help me on this, So that I could buy the correct frequency RAM of 8 GB to make it 12 GB altogther?

So, 2400 Mhz or 2666 Mhz I need to buy?

The specs of your machine is

           https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06386972

It has 4 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB) and supports  32GB max. You can use 2666MHz RAM but machine will run at 2400MHz anyway. You can upgrade to 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB or 32GB but 12, 20, 24 are not recommended.

(a)  8GB:  add SAME existing 4GB to slot 2 or use

(b) 16GB: install 8GB each to both slots using

                 https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k8g4sfs824a/ct15212485

(c)  32GB: install 16GB each to both slots using

Thanks for the detailed response. Is that mean that both slot supports ddr4 2666 mhz ram with 260 pins and not 2400 mhz ones?

@ashishhere

1. We can install 2666 MHz RAM on both slots and they will run at 2400 MHz

2. All DDR4 RAM slots have same number on pins, doesn't matter 2400, 2666, 3200 .... RAM.
