Hi Team,

          I am planning to buy the HP Envy x360  (Model Name : m6-w103dx)  Laptop with Config (Intel 6th gen Core i5 6200U and 8GB (DDR3L 1600 Mhz).  Could you tell me if this model will support DDR4 RAMs and what's the max memory limit It can upgrade upto ?

1. No it supports DDR3L only. By the way, DDR3 and DDR4 are not the same physically therefore unswappable.

2. From page 1 of its Maintenance and Service Guide on the following link:

MemoryTwo SODIMM slots - non customer accessible / non-upgradeable
DDR3L-1600 Dual Channel Support
Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:

● 16384-MB total system memory (8192×2)

● 12288-MB total system memory (8192×1) + (4096×1)

● 8192-MB total system memory (8192×1) or (4096×2)

● 4096-MB total system memory (4096×1) or (2048×2)

Thanks for your reply , However from the Intel website I got to know that the Core i5 6200U do support DDR4 (2133) and DDR3L (1600). Also from another article it says

The new UniDIMM memory standard from Intel allows users of the mobile platform to enjoy both DDR3L and DDR4 Memory on the same slot.

May be the restriction added by Motherboard , can you provide Chipset details used in the Motherboard please ?

Hi,

 

You did not read the book and its specs. You can re-invent yourself but it only supports DDR3L RAM and RAM is non-user upgradable. Full stop.

 

If you wish,  with your money you can buy a machine and experiment. Who knows you become famous.
