Hello,

Well i have a totally different experience from all you guys. I greatly appreciate the time you all are taking to read my add.

Here how it starts: My Dv4 - 1225dx  was overheating. I cleaned it with air and Windows 7 after that was performing an update. It was long so i left it on and went to sleep. Next day in the morning the computer was bricked with a black screen and caps and scroll making 2 blinks at a time. According to the code it meant corrupted bios. I unplugged and plugged back the bios battery and followed all the steps that have been posted to this thread but for some reason it never reaches to read the usb drive.

I would greatly appreciate if someone would help on this matter, since it has become really challenging and personal for me.

Again thanks in advance for help.

I got the same problem in dv4-1225dx, cant get into CRM, i follow all the steps and i dont see any activity running in my usb flash drive, the last BIOS version is F.55 i copy and paste 30FBF55.FD to my pre formated pen drive and rename it to 30FB.BIN, i also try with the other names but nothing, can it have something to do with the AMD procesor?, maybe another key combination to enter CRM ? im tired to see those glowing leds on my pavillion, some help will be really apreciated. thx

I am not sure I renamed 30F7F24U.FD or 30F7F24D.FD to BIN file. It looked like bios recovery was successful but after auto reboot now its blank. USB is no more detected. system turn off automatically around 5 seconds. but still trackpad light turns amber on win+B key combination.

any help?

I have dv4-1020us with intel graphics

I have DV4-1220US and I am not sure if it's the same issue or not.  I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 with BIOS upgrade and it ran for a couple months.  Now I see a black screen.  I cannot even go into BIOS mode (F10).  I plugged in an external monitor via HDMI and all I see is "Prepare to boot OS".  I followed the instructions to update the BIOS with the latest from hp (30FBF55.FD).  I heard it beeped, but I didn't see any screen flash, so I am not sure if it updated.  The power turned off after the update.  I powered it back on and the screen is still black.  Please help.  Thanks.

My problem was caused by a damaged power cable on the left hinge connecting to the converter.  If I close and open the screen a little (2-3 inches), then the screen powers up normally.

Hi, thanks a lot to this post and all of the participant...

ì use dv4 1220 and got bricked coz my electricity was down during bios update progress.. It was totally an accident,..

But i followed those steps and try to recover my bios.. It didn't work at first. I dunno why... Then i use a 325gb hdd, a 8gb thumbdrive, a 256 thumbdrive in fat (default) format and a 4gb dvd...
I use the bios data i download from hp.com based on my product from version f.42 , f.45, f49 to f.55.. I put each of them in different folder...
However i put the f.42 version out of folder in the 256mb thumbdrive because it was the former bios version of mine

All of each version copied and renamed to JBL20.BIN
JBL20hw.BIN
30HW.BIN
30FB.BIN
30F7.BIN

After several trial and failure, finally the data was red on my 256 mb thumbdrive, i plug it on the usb port with 'sata' beside the HDMI port.. And there was several beep then it gone off..

Finally i turn it on again and it works... I log in, and use my laptop again...

I dunnn which one is working, but i'm sure it was in my 256 thumbdrive..

Once again, thankyu everyone...

tdk, you are a genius.

Thank you so much for the post. For those having problems still:

I sp48847.exe bricked my dv4-1117nr. It was a nightmare. HP online chat support told me that there was probably a physical flaw (such as a cracked motherboard) and tried to get me to send it in.

Instead I downloaded and installed 7 zip.

Then I extracted sp48847.exe to get WinFlash.exe

Then I extracted WinFlash.exe and found the 30F7F66U.FD

The "66" part of the filename refers to the current version of the BIOS on HP's support site. Since (like previous posts) I have the Intel graphics hardware, I used the 30F7???U.FD and renamed it to 30F7.BIN

Then I followed the instructions per tdk at the beginnning of this thread. It worked exactly as the instructions said.

Thank you, tdk et al!

you are using the wrong firmware.  the model you have is the Vista one.  Try using the sp42636.exe and follow the instructions as noted.  You can find the file in BIOS if Windows Vista is selected for OS.

Hi,

I have a HP Pavillon dv4t-1000 that has the problem of corrupted BIOS

I foolowed the famous procedure ro recover, however, it seems that Windows+B combination does not work me;  it never reaches the USB thumb drive to read. Is there anyone out there, who experienced and overcame the same problem.

Thank you
