Pavilion DV6625EL
Microsoft Windows Vista

Hello, here's my configuration

Laptop model: Pavilion DV6625EL

CPU: Core 2 Duo T5250

BIOS: F.5A

Chipset: Intel GM965 rev C0

Motherboard: Quanta 30CC rev C0

RAM: 2 x 2 Gb DDR2 PC2-6400 (wich can only work at PC2-5300 speed with my chipset, right?)

I installed a T7500 CPU but the laptopt didn't work: the screen wouldn't turn on and no HDD activity occurred. Just the lights and fan would come on. Reinstalling the original CPU brought the system to perfect working order.

What happened? Is this CPU type not supported? Is my T7500 broken? Thank you.

You're very welcome.

You flashed the BIOS using the right BIOS version.

I forgot which BIOS version added support for the T8100, T9300 and T9500 (I think it was F.45), but since the BIOS updates are cumulative, F.5A is the best one to have.

I'm thinking the T7500 processor you have is no good for some reason.

You can see from the service manual, chapter 1 below, that the T7500 was an original supported processor without any BIOS updates.

2.20-GHz processor, 4-MB L2 cache, 800MHz front side bus (FSB)

Hi:

With the latest F.5A BIOS installed, you can go up to the T9500 on your model, so the T7500 should definitely have worked.

The only reason it wouldn't work is if your notebook's motherboard has the GL 960 chipset, but it should have the GM, or PM 965 chipset.

Use this free utility to confirm what chipset your notebook has.  I use the portable version.

Thanks for your time!

HWiNFO says Intel GM965 (Crestline-GM) + ICH8M

About the BIOS, I flashed it myself to raise the probability of a successful CPU upgrade as it was an older version. I believe the PC wouldn't work if I flashed the wrong one, would it?
