I have a HP Pavilion DV7-1273cl laptop I purchased in 2009. I am currently running WIN10 on one partition and Ubuntu on another partition. It has served me well but I would like to upgrade my ram from 4GB and to a SSD from my original HD. Can anyone help me with how much ram this unit will hold? I would like to add at least 8 but 16GB of ram if it will hold. I also am inexperienced in doing this and I need help with what type of Ram to purchase. Any help would be appreciated.

memory is DDR2-800 SO-DIMM and max capacity is a pair of 4 gb modules for 8 gb total.
DDR2 laptop memory is insanely expensive:
You can use a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in place of the mechanical hard drive. In fact, your model has a pair of 2.5 inch bays so you can put an SSD where the HDD is now and move the HDD over to the other side for storage. The two SATA ports for hard drive are not created equal. Only the primary bay can be bootable.
There are a set of removeable doors on the bottom of the laptop and the memory and hard drive bays are under them. Easy to access. You may find 2 hard drives already installed but you may find an open bay.
