Hi there.

I had to format my HDD and lost all HP utilities recently. I downloaded all drivers etc. but can't find HP MyDrive which I badly need in order to update hp DVDRW GUB0N firmware... I was about to do it (it found updates) but decided to do later and same day my system got crashed because of virus and had to format HDD. I am looking for this software but can't find anywhere. Is there any source, website, ftp to get it or any other HP program that would update my drive under windows 10?

Thanks for replays:

Hi,

I hope you can help me on the issue of DVD drive. This DVD model is "hp DVDRW GUB0N". It seems reading cd/dvd is ok without issue, but failed on writing no matter what type or brand of CD/DVD I was using. It asked me to upgrade to the latest firmware. However I followed the instructions on hp support, the driver checked is up to date, though it uses microsoft generic driver C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys. version 10.0.18362.1 (2006-06-21). I cannot find any new or updated hp driver for this model. Neither can I find HP "MyDrive" utility on my laptop to upgrade to the firmware. My laptop op system is windows 10 64bit. I really don't know where I can find the latest firmware for this DVD drive and how to apply it.

Really appreciate if you can help!  Thanks,

Wilber

We'll need to know if that's just the DVD drive you have or its a drive that came with the PC, that said, if the drive came with the PC, you can get the firmware/driver from the HP website: click here to access the same

Hello @Riddle_Decipher,

My laptop model is HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab277ca (ENERGY STAR). The DVD drive came with the Laptop.

However as I mentioned before, the driver for the DVD seems it is from Microsoft not hp. And I cannot find any driver or firmware related when the hp support website page automatically detected my model and list All the drivers. That is where I get stuck.

@wilberwh

Thank you for posting back.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: ( do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating )

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “

Hi,

I have use the HP Support Assistant on my lap top to update everything to the latest. Unfortunately, it still shows the same error when trying to burn a disc (tried with different brand new discs).  It does not solve the issue.

@wilberwh

Thank you for posting back.

Let's try this:
To burn a DVD folder to disc, complete the following steps:

  1. In Windows, search for and open File Explorer.

  2. Click This PC.

  3. Right-click the name of the disk drive and select Eject. Remove any discs from the drive that may have ejected at this time.

  4. Insert a blank disc into the drive and close the drive. The amount of free space displays below the drive icon and the icon changes to reflect the type of disc that was inserted.

  5. Double-click the drive icon to open the Burn a Disc window.

  6. Type a title for your disc (default is the date), then select Like a USB flash drive or With a CD/DVD player, depending on how you want to use the disc.

  7. If you select Like a USB flash drive, the files copy to the disc. You can save, edit, and delete files on the disc many times, but the disc might not work in other computers and devices. To use this option, follow these steps: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03453031 HP PCs - Saving Files to Disc (Windows 10, 😎

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

It looks like my questions were replied by a machine- agent or maybe replied by supporters randomly assigned without looking at the context/previous conversions. Simply summary is - I know how to burn a disk, I followed the correct instructions and tried updating everything to the latest. Still got the same error as at the very beginning -- asking me to get the latest firmware of the DVD driver, which I have no idea how / where to proceed.

Thanks,

@wilberwh I went through the details and you are right, there are no firmware updates related to your optical drive available on the HP website, that said, I suggest we run a hardware test to identify the issue before we jump to a conclusion:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Sample List of the Component tests

Optical Drive Tests - These tests include the Sequential Read Test, Random Read Test, and Write Read Compare Test.

To run the test, click Optical Drive. Select one of the tests, and then click Run once. You need to insert a CD or DVD to complete this testing.

Each test takes 1 to 2 minutes to run.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
