I was already running Windows 10 when Windows installed another upgrade to Windows 10. This has caused the removal of all details from Drive (E) and now I can't burn DVD's or CD's. Asking HP is a waste of time because all I get is the virtual agent. Can anyone advise me on what to do?

Try removing upper and lower filters from the registry:

Also you can see if there is a hardware issue with the optical drive by trying to boot the system from a bootable CD or DVD. If the system can boot from optical then we know the problem is within Windows and not the drive itself.

Thank you for your advice, but when I opened the link you sent me, it was like trying to read a foreign language. I went to Argos and bought an external DVD reader/burner and I now use that with no problem. What I have discovered though is that HP is crap, and Windows is a waste of time. My daughter uses Macintosh on a cheap laptop, and has never had any problems like I have, so I'm going to follow her example and put this down to a case of buyer beware.

Yes its a baffling world and things can be complicated. Sorry to have responded. Good luck to you.
