HP ENVY Laptop 17-ae103n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The DVD drive on laptop will no longer burn to CD or DVD. It will play media without any issues but will not burn.

I have attempted the following without success:

1) Tried using different CD-R discs

2) Tried using different software to burn to disc (Windows Media Player, I-Tunes, Cyberlink)

3) Lowered the write speed and quality settings

4) Removed and reinstalled the DVD drive using Windows Device Manager

5) Checked the registry settings for lower and upper values - none were present

6) Checked the BIOS to ensure the drive was displayed - it was

7) Used the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows app to diagnose any faults - none were present

😎 Performed a System restore back to the a point when I know that the DVD drive was writing to disc sucessfully.

Are there any other suggestions?

Many thanks

Adrian

Since the part is customer replaceable you can perhaps talk them into just shipping you a replacement drive with a return box for the defective one.

You have done all you can. Optical disks often fail one function even while others work. You need to replace the drive. Not difficult or expensive to do. You can find an exact replacement plug and play or a generic DVD burner and swap over mounting hardware and bezel. Let us know where you live (country) and we can direct you to a good replacement to buy and directions on how to do the swap.

Many thanks for the response.

That is what I presumed but just wanted to check there were no other options I had yet to try. The laptop is still under warranty so I shall organise for the repair.
