HP Chromebook 11 G8 Education Edition

I have had 4 units in past month that would not power on or indicate connection to a power supply using either the right or left side USB-C ports.

I have narrowed down to removing the narrow ribbon connecting the main board to the daughterboard. upon removal, the right side USB-C port will confirmed connection to a power supply and the unit will power on.

After removing the narrow ribbon cable, the left side USB-C port is no longer functional.

Inspection of daughterboard reveals no obvious damage/shorts/liquid intrusion.

Ideas to cause for failure of port?
