Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76S99AV)

Hello, as the title says I am worried that I voided my warranty. Last 2 month I experienced more heat coming from notebook especially when the light on keyboard was on. It wasn’t something very problematic and didn’t even cause performance to slow down but it bothered me. I thought it could be an issue with dusty fans, so I chose to open the backlid od the notebook to clean the fans. But while opening the backlid something was holding it so I tried to wedging it out and It worked but the thing that was holding the lid on, I accidentally broke It and now I am very nervous that I void my warranty because of that. I did not damage anything but just this one little piece of plastic that was holding the backlid. Any help would be appreciated. Also what do you think can cause the notebook especially the middle of the keyboard produce more  heat when the backlight is on? I think it can be the thermal paste not as effective as when the notebook was brand new so it leak some heat but why just when the light is on ?

The backlit keyboard used LED technology. which does not generate any appreciable heat.

The voltage and amperage required to light up the LEDS under the keys is very low.

Yes, you probably did void the warranty since the laptop now has a owner induced broken part.

" backlid"? Did you mean to say bottom cover instead?

The heat is likely from the thermal interface material (thermal pad, not paste) between the Heat sink assembly  and the processor and graphics solution. It could also be from the M.2 SSD, which has a thermal pad on it..

One of the two fan happens to be in the middle of the laptop. Check for dust at the intake and exhaust ports.

Thanks for your answer. Yes by saying backlid I meant the bottom cover where also are those 2 plastic clips that one fell off when opening. I know I break something but it isn´t something that would cause system to perform differently? So the warranty shouldn´t be voided, but I will agree with your answer. As for the LED lights, this was the main reason of me to open it, I wanted to clean the vents and also the fans, which came out that weren´t that dusty and also it didn´t fix the issue with keyboard being warmer when the LED is on.

The unfortunate thing about voiding the warranty is that as long as you are able to return the laptop to pristine condition when you close it up after making an upgrade, the warranty is not voided.

That has been the general understanding that we as HP Experts have been given over the years.

Are there particular programs you are running when the laptop gets hot?

What is the temperature that you are considering to be hot.

80C is a decent temp if you are playing a game that has challenging graphics requirements.

What does your laptop have for a graphics solution?  Discrete or not (UMA)?

You might consider using a laptop stand to allow better airflow.

That´s bad to hear, that the little plastic clip broke my warranty. Anyway the notebook idle somewherr around 40c - 45c this temperature is the same whenever the LED is on or off. I think that when the LED is on that some dust or I don’t know what anything could cause that, make the keyboard around the center warmer. It is not like hot it´s just uncomfortable to type on it. Also this is whenever I do something more demanding or less demanding on the laptop. It has a dedicated RTX 4050. I should’t opened it that time but whatever. It was performing great first months of use but after about 6 months it started making this.

40-50C is a great range of temperature.

The RTX 4050 is probably what is warming up that you are feeling the heat transfer from.

I got a relief. So the temperatures are great. The main reason I wanted to ask about this is because when I got this laptop, and I turned on the LED lights I didn’t feel any “excessive” heat apart from the normal temps of CPU and GPU but now if I turn on the LED it just heats up around the middle of the keyboard.  I know that it isn’t brand new so it could potentionally worse it’s cooling system  with dust inside vents or maybe it is just the thermal pads that worned out after some months maybe. Anyway I really appreciate your help. Keep up your good work.
