My laptop was in sleep mode. I opened the lid, plugged in the charger and started to plug in the HDMI as I've done countless times. This time it didn't go in right away. As I was trying to find the port, the laptop abruptly died...no lights, nothing. I pressed the power button again, it came on for half a second or so then died again. Nothing worked at that point.
I made sure the power was connected properly, again pressed the power button, but for several seconds this time, still nothing. But then I saw the white LED at the power connector was lit, so I pressed the power button again and the laptop powered up fine.
It seems to be working normally so I'm feeling very lucky right now. I'd like to know what happened and what I can do to not have it happen again.

I came across your post and would like to help
I suggest you update the BIOS and let me know if that helps

Thanks. It's a fairly new computer....only got it in December, so the BIOS shouldn't need updating, should it?
But more to the point, it's only happened once. Rather than waiting to see if that helps, I'd like to NOT have it happen again at all.
I was hoping y'all might have some best guesses about what caused it in the first place. Could it have been static electricity? A bad HDMI cable (the one I have is high quality and not old, but you never know)? A faulty power supply? Has anyone had the situation I had?

@Barnwop You've nailed it, this type of issue usually occurs due to static electricity, considering the power drain you did, got the laptop working again, or in other words, its been resurrected (it's alive, it's alive!!),
You should be good to go, and yes, if there are any BIOS updates that were released after you purchased the device and its not installed, you may do so, to ensure none of the other issues occur, do read the instructions of what the BIOS fixes before you install it, if that's an issue, otherwise, the BIOS update is not really necessary.
I hope that answers your query,
