Can anyone tell me if the Digitizer Screens for the 17 Inch Envy 17-J and 17-K are the same?  If not what are the differences.

Thanks,

How about $100?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ENVY-NOTEBOOK-17-K073CA-17-K200-Touch-Screen-Glass-w-Digitizer-Assembly-/...

There are lots of these out there. Just search in eBay for "HP 17-k100 digitizer and glass".

When you do, you will also get some hits on 17-j models and looking at the pictures you will see differences in the way the digitizer board connects to the glass panel. If you think different laptop models are cookie cutter you have not participated in the development of a laptop model. Generally component parts are custom made and the only thing generic is screen panels, hard drives, memory modules...chassis parts, motherboards and touchscreen glass are still one-offs for the most part.

Before you buy get as close a look at your glass and digitizer and the picture of what you are buying as possible. A lot of these ebay vendors have phone numbers you can call to ask questions. I am not endorsing the above seller. Shop around as I am not sure that was the very best price...but it was nearly so at least.

You seem to have some idea what you are getting yourself into. I repair a lot of laptops and am not afraid to tear them down to component parts. I stay away from touchscreen glass work because it requires some skills I just have never taken the time to develop, primarily having to do with getting the bubbles out between the underlying screen and the digitizer glass. I let the youngsters who came up doing that work and work on tablets and cell phones handle that.

Anyway, good luck and post back with any more questions.

K Model Number -    17-k118nr

J Model Number Options

17-J060US   17-J102SF   m7-j178ca   17-J043CL  17-J017CL  m7-J020DX  m7-J120DX  m7-J003DX  m7-J010DX  17-J157CL  17-J005EA

My daughter broke the glass on the K model.   I can find replacement screens for all these different j models.   I wouldn't even care if the Touch Screen portion wouldn't work anymore just as long as it was the same size and I could replace the glass so she is not looking thru a cracked screen.

It seems strange to me as cookie cutter as these things are during assembly that they would differ that much.   Escpecially in size.  I am finding it difficult to find an honest answer on the internet because I feel like everyone wants to sell me a $500.00 complete replacement display when all I want is new glass on there.  Again could care less if the touch feature ever works again.  I could leave that unplugged.

thanks,
