Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I recently changed my system board from i3 7th generation with UMA (Integrated) graphics to i5 8th generation with dedicated graphics (mx110 2gb). I changed the heatsink also. But, I am using the same old processor fan (hp part no: L20474-001). In the user guide of HP 15 series laptops, 2 different processor fans are mentioned. One is for processor with UMA graphics and the other is for processor with discrete graphics. Both having different part numbers as : L20474-001 and L20473-001. Do I need to change the fan also ? What is the difference between technical specifications of these 2 fans ?

Actually, I google it to find the difference between them. But, I couldn't find out. Please help regarding this.

Fan for use in models with discrete graphics L20473-001 You need this one

You can get the specs on the fan if you use the actual manufacturer name and part number. There is usually a sticker on the fan. Sunon is a common brand on laptop fans.

Fan for use in models with UMA graphics L20474-001
UMA graphics means on-chip, as in on the processor, graphics

You will need to change the fan and the heatsink if they does not match the specifications in the manual for the specific processor and graphics solution.

You did not specify which processor you have or the specific motherboard you installed.

More information is far better that a little bit, so I can't advise you on the heatsink until you  provide more specific information.

Thanks for your response. I installed i5-8250u processor with Nvidia mx110 2gb gddr5 discrete graphics. The motherboard part number is : L20362-601.  Right now, I installed the old processor fan.  Still, I want to know what is the difference between the specifications of fans used in system board with discrete graphics and that used in system board with UMA graphics.  I searched through the internet, but I couldn't find out the difference between the specifications of these 2 fans.  By the way, if I have to change the fan, then please suggest, from where can I purchase the processor fan ?

Thanks for your advise.

I suggest performing an online search for a vendor with good reviews.

I would use HP + the part number as the keywords in a search.

The difference between the fans coupled with the appropriate heatsink is the ability to transfer the heat from the discrete gpu chip. The discrete graphics chips do generate some heat.

Don't forget to match the heatsink with the processor+graphics solution as described in the Maintenance & Service guide illustrated parts catalog.
