Greetings!
Welcome to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, you are trying to adjust the brightness of the backlit keyboard.
Don't worry, I'm here to help! To better assist you -
1) May I have the exact model name of the computer? Refer to this link for steps to find the product details.
(Ensure not to share the serial number, email, phone number, etc.)
2) Can you also send us a picture of the keyboard layout?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps -
If your notebook computer has a backlit keyboard, press the F5 key on the keyboard to turn the light on or off. It might be necessary to press the Fn (function) key at the same time.
If the backlight icon is not on the F5 key, look for the backlit keyboard key on the row of function keys.
To adjust the brightness of the backlight, press the key with the backlight icon two or three times in a row. The keyboard backlight dims and brightens. It might be necessary to press the Fn (function) key at the same time to activate the backlight key.
Let me know how that goes.

Hello,
It is a HP ENVY x360 Convertible Model 15-cn0088nb. You can see the lay-out of the keyboard in the foto.
The F5 button indeed makes it possible to put the backlight on or off.
I am however looking for the function to dim the backlight, as it is quite bright and takes a lot of battery. Your advice to push the F5 button a couple of times doens't seem to help. It just makes the backlight flash on and off.

Thanks for replying. Please try re-installing the printer drivers -
1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Double-click Keyboards.
3) Right click on the keyboard drivers and click on uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.
Let me know.

Hi,
Did it work?
Where you able to dim the keyboard backlight (not turn it off, but make the light dimmer) on your HP laptop?
Please, how can I dim the keyboard backlight on my HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-bq0xx?
Thanks

Anyone had luck with dimming backlight using F5????? I’m on second computer as Costco Concierge service says I should be able to dim! I tried one in a store and there was on—dim on—and off. Second computer arrived today as replacement. Does exact same thing! New Envy x360 15.6. So frustrating ! Same response everyone else has received. Not helpful! Just need a yes or no response. Is the backlight dimmable or not? If not, then I need to return two and buy something else.
