Hi @ithinkunome,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having some issues on your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Did it happen recently after the software update?
Have you tried to uninstall HP Quick launch buttons from Control panel?
Have you tried to disable it in Bios?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Before proceeding to any troubleshooting, I would like to inform that Uninstalling or disabling HP quick launch button, will ensure that none of the above key works.
If you wish to continue disabling it, please attempt the steps suggested below:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Once done, please restart the PC and check how it goes.
If the issue persists, you could try to uninstall HP Quick launch buttons from Control panel.
You could use the function keys as normal functions by disabling the hotkeys in bios.
To let you know, the Fn key can be disabled but then the brightness, volume control, etc...
would be non-functional once disabled as function keys without the Fn are just used for normal functions like its listed here.
If you still wish to disable the Fn key features, here's the step by step guide for you:
- Click the Start button, then click Run.
- In the Run window, next to Open , type MSCONFIG.
- Press the ENTER key.
- In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
- On the Startup tab, under Startup Item, ensure that the HKserv checkbox is unchecked.
For more details on how to disable the functions in the bios): Click here
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshootingsteps.
Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
