HP envy 15 k201tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is my RAM config:

DDR3L-1600 MHz Dual Channel Support
Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:
● 4096 MB total system memory (4096×1)

● 8192 MB total system memory (4096×2)

● 8192 MB total system memory (8192×1)

● 12288 MB total system memory (8192MB +4096)

● 16384 MB total system memory (8192×2)

Model No: HP envy 15 k201tx

OS: Microsoft windows 10 64bit

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200 CPU @ 2.20 GHz  2.20GHz

I have one 8gb ram which was built-in and i put additional 4gb ram to increase it to 12gb.

IS THERE A WAY TO DISABLE MY 4GB SODIMM RAM SLOT TEMPORARILY WITHOUT DISASSEMBLY USING ANY SOFTWARE OR CHANGING VALUES  IN THE REGISTRY ETC.

I WANT TO DO SOME TESTING ON MY LAPTOP USING SINGLE AND DOUBLE FUNCTIONING OF RAM AFFECTING PERFORMANCE OF THE OS.

Any kind of help appreciated.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry, but most likely no -- there is no way to actually disable a memory slot.  This is controlled in the BIOS, not in the OS, and I've not seen any BIOS entries that allow for the enabling/disabling of individual memory slots.

You might try a 'RAM disk':  http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk

It allocates some RAM, say 4GB, to become a "virtual" disk-drive.

That amount of RAM is no longer available for Windows to use,

thus "reducing" your available RAM to, say, 8 GB.

This does not override the "dual-channel" usage by the motherboard of the RAM, because you cannot control which 4GB "chunk" of RAM is assigned to the RAM-disk.  You'll have to physically remove a stick of RAM, to return to "single-channel" mode.
