Hi. This is my first ever laptop and I keep it stationary on my desk, I only use it there.
I would like to ask if I need to disconnect it from the ac adapter at night when not in use or should I leave it plugged in all the time?
Also, I had a message 2 days ago about calibrating my secondary battery. I have followed all the suggested steps, but I am just trying the same thing over and over again and the same message re-appears. I cannot get rid of the message icon. I have only had my laptop for around 4 months.
I would really appreciate some suggestion of what I should do.
Thank you,
Lizzie1959.

Hi @Lizzy1959,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Congratulations on your new laptop! Regarding your questions.
Leaving it plugged in: Modern laptops are designed to handle being plugged in for extended periods. Generally, it's okay to leave your laptop connected to the AC adapter even when not in use. However, to extend the overall lifespan of the battery, it's a good idea to occasionally use the laptop on battery power and let it discharge and recharge.
Calibrating the battery: If you're facing issues with calibrating the battery, it could be a software or hardware issue. Here are some steps you can try.
a. Update your laptop's firmware and drivers: Ensure that your laptop's operating system and drivers are up to date.
b. Battery calibration software: Some laptops come with built-in battery calibration tools. Check your laptop's user manual or HP's support website for any specific calibration tools provided.
c. Manual calibration: If the automated calibration is not working, you can try manually calibrating the battery. Here are the steps:
- Charge your laptop to 100%. -
- Disconnect the AC adapter and let the battery drain until the laptop shuts down due to low battery. -
- Leave it off for a few hours. -
- Plug in the AC adapter and charge it to 100% again.
Battery Health Report: Check your laptop's battery health report (if available). This report can provide detailed information about the battery's condition and might give insights into any potential issues.
Remember to back up your important data before attempting any significant changes
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
