Pavilion 15-n225tu Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Problem:

The disk usage shows 100% at times. Overall, the laptop has become 10 times slow. Reinstalled win 10 twice because it crashed and win/C drive got formatted automatically .

Takes almost 10mins to start even after turning on or waking from sleep.

Tried solution(s):

Disabled services like Superfetch, Search and indexing, Cortana and Defender(from registry) with least applications installed.

Probably a problem with hard disk ( toshiba mq01abd050 )

Also, if buying a new ssd (~120gb) for win and using current hdd for storage; can help , which one would be appropriate and compatible for  Hp Pavilion 15-n225tu Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)  ?

Any help  or suggestions would be appreciated !

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

I have a few steps to identify and resolve the issue:

Common causes of slow system performance:

  • Not enough free disk space or disk errors.

  • Applications that require a lot of system resources.

  • Too many tasks running at the same time.

  • Nonessential graphic features.

  • Not enough memory.

  • Overheating due to intensive graphic applications or dust in vents.

  • Running multiple instances of anti-virus software.

Turning off nonessential graphical features to improve system performance

Graphical features and programs can use a lot of system resources.

Turning off these features can improve system performance.

This section explains how to adjust visual effects for best performance and how to disable Windows Aero.

The best way to do that is using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

Having said that, this computer Supports 24 GB mSATA solid-state drive with system memory up to 8 GB (for use with select computer models with Intel processors and switchable discrete graphics). Follow this link and refer page no : 3.

Keep me posted. 🙂

Reinstalled all the graphic and chipset drivers from the official hp site for my laptop model. The system is not usually slow now and the sleep-wake time has decreased significantly too.

The system works fine usually but at times, suddenly the disk usage goes upto 100% without any major process using disk, visible in task manager and it becomes unusable then. Goes back to normal automatically after 5-10mins.

Can you suggest what could be the problem ?

And if I need to buy a new ssd, can you provide the link(s) for particular ones available on amazon ?

Thank you

Thanks for the response.

Great to hear that the computer is performing well now, At times, getting into 100 % is normal, This usually happens when there are updates running in the back end.

I went through the user guide and I can't find an ssd slot. Follow this link for the user guide.

Hope this helps. 🙂
