Elite book 840 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I inherited a HP elitebook 840 G1 and I got some upgrades planned (RAM and SSD). The display is currently 1366 X 768 which is ok, but I really wanted the FHD display.

What parts would I need to upgrade the display? Is it a case of a new screen or are there new display chips that are required.

I've heard the a new cable is required?

Thank you

No the same display cable is used for the HD and FHD display so you can just open up the display housing and swap in this panel or equivalent:

FHD, SVA (1920×1080) 300 nits 737659-001

Service Manual

Start on p. 66 for how to.

This says you need a new cable but not so. There is no FHD cable to buy or it would be in the manual:

Sweet, nice one.

I shall be ordering one soon!

Having a look around, the FHD might be an exact fit,

but will it be supported by the motherboard???

Yes FHD and HD screens are installed on models using the same motherboards and all use the same cable so logically you can simply swap in the FHD screen. I do take all that into consideration as I have actually done a few of these upgrades and had a few not work (not this model) so I am sensitive to the possible pitfalls.

Upgrades to this particular model?

I know physically it is ok, i am very worried about the cable and motherboard.

This is the display I want to put in:

14.0-in LED, FHD, AG, SVA (1920×1080), 300 nits 737659-001

to replace:

14.0-in LED, HD, AntiGlare (AG), SVA (1366×768), 200 nits 737657-001

This is not a casual thing. If you are worried about it don't take my advice take it to a computer shop and see what kind of advice they give you. I learned long ago any professional advice is worth no more than you pay for it. Pretty sure I know what I am talking about but I am not going to be responsible if it goes wrong.

I appreciate your comments.

I had a live chat with HP and they said its a straight swap.  Wanted a second opinion to make sure.  dont really want to waste my time opening and closing the laptop.

Good to hear someone agrees with me

So i got the 1920x1800 FHD panel and it was a straight swap (pretty easy too) and works perfectly!

Top draw, thanks for the help
